Role and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are intended as examples of the types of work that may be performed by a Youth-Family Advisor Supervisor, but are not necessarily performed and do not include all specific functions and responsibilities that the Youth-Family Advisor Supervisor may be expected to perform.

  • Provide direct oversight and regular supervision of the agency’s Youth-Family Advisors, including delegation of work where appropriate.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Youth Family-Advisor team regarding service coordination through frequent team meetings and individual supervision to discuss client needs or concerns.
  • Maintain a small caseload of clients and provide Youth Reentry Transition Support services during assigned youth’s out-of-home placement and continue for the youth and family for up to one year following discharge from residential placement.
  • Perform needs assessment with each youth and family, create individual reentry plans, and conduct case management sessions with youth and families, both at intake and at regular intervals while cases remain active.
  • Assist with connections to needed resources and support before the youth’s release, as well as for up to one year following discharge from placement; provide wrap-around case management to support resource utilization.
  • Coordinate services and actively place youth and families at relevant job training programs, housing sites/programs, employment sites/programs, and social service, substance abuse, and mental health treatment programs.
  • Participate in workshop sessions for youth in residential placement settings; workshop topics will include job readiness and soft-skills training, peer and family relationship supports, restorative justice topics, and other life-skills topics.
  • Provide emotional support and assist participants with navigating the challenges and successes of their reentry transition; promote family strengths and connection to supports.
  • Facilitate and maintain regular contact with DCJ Community Support Specialists regarding service coordination and attend recreation and group community activities.
  • Provide regular, face-to-face contact at the residential facilities, in the home, at school, or in the community. Maintain frequent follow-up with youth and families.
  • Collaborate with YRS treatment teams and families to support and create an individual reentry plan; attend monthly treatment meetings, aftercare, and other planning meetings.
  • Assess and report on client progress and participation at regular intervals; Track and update client information using the agency’s database program; complete case notes and maintain regular contact with YRS regarding youth progress.
  • Adhere to a flexible schedule to allow for evening/weekend hours to support client needs. Participate in rotating “On-Call” schedule to support unexpected client needs.
  • Communicate with the courts and probation, and parole and advocate during court proceedings when needed; and maintain and foster relationships with community partners.
  • Serve as a program representative as needed at community meetings.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly reports, and year-end reports to the Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services.
  • Establish and maintain a community referral network.
  • Assist with policy, communications, and development as they relate to the program.
  • Accept and perform other work as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Understands and supports the Delaware Center for Justice and Restorative Justice Philosophy and mission.
  • Significant knowledge and experience related to justice-involved people, the social forces and systems impacting them, and the resources available to them are required.
  • Staff serving in this role will have prior experience supervising a team.
  • A master’s Degree in human services, social work, or a related field is also required.
  • Experience in motivational interviewing, strengths-based case management, trauma-informed practice, and/or Cognitive Behavioral practices is required.
  • Background checks and clearances are required as per program contract(s).
  • Flexible schedule; evening and some weekend hours required.
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage work at different sites (in-office and off-site).
  • Must have a valid Delaware Driver’s License; Use of personal vehicle required.
  • Strong team building, organizing, writing, and other communication skills are essential.
  • Experience with group facilitation is required.
  • Basic computer skills, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office, as well as Zoom/Skype and other distance meeting resources.
  • Ability to multitask and work both independently and with supervision, on-site and remotely.
  • Embrace an understanding of justice involvement that acknowledges the impact of institutional racism and the systemic oppression of BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ people; must share the belief that people can change in positive ways.
  • Must be comfortable providing community-based services.
  • Must embrace teamwork, have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter with a positive attitude, with a good sense of humor.
