Job Title: Finance Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Pay Rate: $70,000/year

Service Area: Wilmington, Delaware (Hybrid schedule available)

Travel Required: Statewide, as needed.

Position Type: Full-time, exempt

FINANCE DIRECTOR POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Director is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial health and ensuring long-term sustainability. This role manages all aspects of financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and strategic planning. The Finance Director provides guidance to senior leadership and the finance committee, ensuring accurate and transparent financial information that supports informed decision-making.

Role and Responsibilities

The following duties are representative of the work performed by the Finance Director. They are not all-inclusive and may change or expand as organizational needs evolve.

Financial Management & Reporting:
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and fund tracking.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets in collaboration with program and leadership staff.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management and the Board.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide financial forecasts.
  • Lead and develop the finance and accounting team.
Grants & Restricted Funds:
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance with grant and donor requirements.
  • Support program staff with grant budget development, financial reporting, and audits.
  • Maintain documentation for grants and ensure timely submission of monthly invoices.
Audit, Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls and financial policies to safeguard assets.
  • Ensure compliance with IRS, state, and federal regulations.
Strategic Leadership:
  • Serve as financial advisor to the Executive Director, senior leadership, and finance committee.
  • Present financial reports and analysis at finance committee meetings.
  • Support organization strategic planning with financial insights and sustainability analysis.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and transparency.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • Proven experience in a senior financial management role, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid billing is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, grant writing, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a focus on mission sustainability.
  • Ability to supervise staff, collaborate across departments, and communicate effectively.
