
Employment Specialist – Part-Time
JOB DESCRIPTION
Team: Adult Reentry
Reports to: Adult Reentry Services Program Director
Pay Rate: Established in offer letter
Service Area: Kent County
Travel Required: Regular, Kent County
Position Type: Part-Time
Role and Responsibilities
The duties listed below are intended as examples of the types of work that may be performed by a Part-Time Employment Specialist but are not all necessarily performed and do not include all specific functions and responsibilities that Employment Specialist may be expected to perform.
- Provide personalized employment support services to adults referred by Kent County Probation & Parole.
- Coordinate, refer, and actively place clients at relevant job training programs, employment sites, or other vocational supports.
- Assess client employment history, education, and skillsets to connect them with employment opportunities
- Assist clients 1:1 or in group setting with resume development, employment readiness, and job seeking
- Facilitate workforce development and operate employment lab at Probation and Parole.
- Develop rapport and connect clients to employment opportunities through meetings on-site as well as through virtual engagement by phone/text/video meetings
- Educate and connect clients and employers to the Federal Bonding Program
- Establish and maintain relationships with employers, employment agencies, job training programs, and state programs
- Serve as a program representative as needed at community meetings
- Assess and report on client progress and participation at regular intervals
- Maintain an organized database of all employment partners; keep detailed documentation of all contacts
- Track and update client information using database program
- Generate monthly, quarterly reports and year-end reports to Dept. of Corrections and Management
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in workforce development programs, adult education, vocational training or related programs.
- Significant knowledge and experience related to justice-involved people, the social forces and systems impacting them, and the resources available to them is required.
- Experience in motivational interviewing, strengths-based, trauma-informed practice and/or Cognitive Behavioral practices is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with participants.
- Embrace an understanding of justice involvement that acknowledges the impact of institutional racism and the systemic oppression of BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ people; must share the belief that people can change in positive ways.
- Understands and supports the mission of the Delaware Center for Justice.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage work at different sites (in-office and off-site).
- Ability to multitask and work both independently and with supervision, on-site and remotely.
- Basic computer skills, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office, as well as Zoom/Skype and other distance meeting resources.
- Background checks and clearances required as per program contract(s).
